                                                      ystagmus is an involuntary, regular, rhythmic,
                                                      repetitive to-and-fro oscillation of the eyes.
                                              NNystagmus can be physiological, congenital or
                                               it may indicate disease of the visual system, central
                                               nervous system or generalised abnormalities. It is mostly
                                               binocular. It is uniocular in very rare cases such as in
                                               internuclear ophthalmoplegia. It may be asymmetric in
                                               spasmus nutans.
                                               CLASSIFICATION (CLINICAL)

                                               A. Physiologic
                                                  z End-point nystagmus
                                                  z Vestibular nystagmus (caloric or rotational)
                                                  z Optokinetic nystagmus
                                                  z Voluntary nystagmus

                                               B. Pathologic
                                                z Nystagmus associated with poor vision (retinal
                                                  diseases, optic nerve hypoplasia and anterior segment
                                                  pathology)
