OPTOMETRY EDUCATION
A QUESTIONNAIRE-BASED
MULTICENTER STUDY
n December 2019, the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
was first reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China that
Icaused unprecedented disruption of the medical education
and healthcare systems worldwide . Since then, the classroom

teaching got a set back and technology restructured the entire
education system related to health care profession. Recent
data on All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) report
released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development
(MHRD), Government of India, suggests that there are 993
RUNA MAZUMDER universities, 39931 Colleges and 10725 standalone institutions
that offer higher education and the online education

market in India is expected to reach INR 360.3 billion by 2024
compared to its value of INR 39 billion in 2018 with increasing
demand for online education at all levels beginning from early
school education. 2
In India, optometry as a health care profession, has evolved
gradually over the years in the field of academics starting from
diploma to post graduation and PhD and it needs extensive
practical skills along with sound theoretical knowledge
that cannot be effectively taught solely in online mode.
However, the educators all over the country began to use
technology and accepted the virtual mode of learning during
the past three years. There are few studies that showed the
