ENGAGING WITH
CUSTOMERS AT
RETAIL OUTLETS
n eye check-up by an optometrist is the starting point
for patients walking into an optical store for their first
Apair of glasses, a routine annual examination or a
replacement frame. However, as prescription lenses, by their
very nature, are a custom-made product, it is in the best
interests of both parties to delve further.
IDENTIFYING INDIVIDUAL NEEDS
It’s important to ask questions and note the patients’
individual daily routine to prescribe the right lenses for their
specific needs. These queries should cover the person’s daily
activities: how much time they spend reading hard copy;
their screen viewing time on the computer, phone or TV;
close-up work such as sewing; mid viewing range work such
as painting; driving; and outdoor activities and sports.
