With the number of Covid-19 affected patients having
recently shot up in Maharashtra including Mumbai, the state
government and authorities had introduced new lockdown
guidelines on physical movement and which establishments
could remain open (hospitals and other health facilities and
essential services, etc.).
Following representations by resident welfare
associations, industry bodies and other affected groups, the
chief secretary of Mumbai held a video conference meeting
with all the city’s municipal commissioners and district

administration authorities. Subsequently, the Municipal
Corporation of Greater Mumbai, in its order dated 7 April
2021, made some exceptions to the curbs that had been
introduced. These included students attending exams; all
online home deliveries of food and essential supplies (24
hours); movement of household help, drivers, nurses and
medical attendees (7 am to 10 pm); and eye clinics and
opticians’ shops following the given time in the order issued
by the Government of Maharashtra.
This last inclusion of allowing eye clinics and optical shops
to remain open is thanks to the determined efforts of MOA
Committee Member Mr Hitesh Thakker, the noted Mumbai-
based optometrist of Kakubhai Purshottam Thakker (KPT),
and Mr Praful Prasad of The Optic Plaza, Bandra, Mumbai. PRAFUL PRASAD
