The student’s brief was to create just one piece
each of their designs using an exclusive colourway
created by Komono for them, for an auction.
These three products were on sale only during an
auction on the brand’s Instagram page on 1 July.
Thereafter, the rest of the collection has been
made available through the brand’s website, at its
flagship stores and selected retailers.
On the initiative of the students, part of the
proceedings of this sale have been earmarked for
Survived and Punished, a US-based organisation
that supports survivors of domestic and sexual
violence who have been incarcerated or targeted
by law enforcement.
KAROLINA WIDECKA
explores the contrast between a delicate look and
a radical contour. Her muse is the ex-voto, the
traditional folk art or objects that are made as an
offering in fulfilment of a vow, as well as the typical
symbols depicted in Mexican religious art. The
concept is to show the sunglasses as eyewear that
offer protection for its wearer, warding off evil with
a cleverly designed ‘broken glass’ upper bar that
makes quite a statement.
The psychedelic art of the 1960s was not
only a great novelty at the time, it continues to
fascinate with its extreme boldness. This has
been the creative take-off point for Florentina
Leitner. Her KOM-S2235 Florentina Crystal Pink
sunglasses show the exaggerated stretched and
liquefied visuals so typical of that era together
with its eye-catching spiralling effect. The glasses
are contemporary to the hilt while paying tribute
to the art icons of the 1960s such as Peggy
