mong the many initiatives, under the
National Health Mission of the Ministry of
AHealth & Family Welfare, Government of
India, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK)
focuses on child health screening and early
intervention services, for identification, care,
support and treatment.
One of its projects conducted recently was
in Maharashtra’s Nanded district, including its
tribal belt, among the most deprived areas in
the Marathwada region. This was the first of its
kind in the region to cover screening for low
vision, awareness and its treatment.
It began with a survey, started in January
2022 and ongoing, to identify susceptible
individuals for various ophthalmic disorders. The
aim is to cover 3 lakh (300,000) children in the
age group of 1 to 18 years, including students
of Zila Parishad (district council) schools and CHIDREN WITH THEIR
