The Futurology space at Next examines
the theme of techno-responsibility through
foresight and innovations that will gradually
shape the future of optics and eyewear. Trends
by Silmo will highlight the latest trends and
novelties. It will also look at actions for a more
committed long-term future, putting design
at the service of the environment and society.
(It must be mentioned here that it’s worth
checking out companies/brands that have
already taken steps in this direction or are in the
planning stages.)
The talks and sharing of experiences on
businesses, products and their distribution
will also focus on combining technicality and
innovation with respect for our environment
and people. Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
and the best workers of France in terms of
innovation in optics are the other two segments.
At Silmo Academy, professionals will get
the opportunity to access the latest research,
knowledge and training to understand the
issues and changes in the sector.
The prestigious Silmo d'Or awards celebrate
talent and creativity. Awards are conferred

in ten categories including vision, material/
equipment, sport and protection, technological
innovation in eyewear, optical fittings and
sunglasses, an exciting much looked-forward to
event in every Silmo.
An Optical Design Contest for students
is a new feature at this year’s fair. This is a
great opportunity for young creative minds
to demonstrate their skills and highlight their
concepts of the optical and eyewear sphere
while exploring its countless possibilities. A panel
of design professionals and interdisciplinary
experts, presided over by the designer and
artistic director Emmanuel Gallina, will judge the
entries in September to select the winner.
In line with its commitment to keep track of
the industry’s businesses throughout the year,
Silmo Paris created Silmo news. This monthly
show, on the Silmo Paris social media accounts,
throws light on the sector in an original way
that explores the extensiveness of a trade
fair that lives in the present and looks to the
future. For instance, the show in May featured
trends expert Dominique Cuvillier. During
the countdown to the show, this is certainly a
platform to check out.
