that is quite extraordinary is of a 59-year-old

Slovak who suffered since childhood with severe
myopia, amblyopia in two eyes, astigmatism,
strabismus and keratoconus. This combination
of conditions made treatment highly complex,
particularly since his myopia is still progressing.
He had an exceptional prescription for
ordinary needs: Right Eye: -106.00 /+6.00 DC x 0°;
Left Eye: -108.00 /+6.00 DC x 25°.
By pooling their skills and expertise, a team
of French and Slovak experts enabled the need
evaluation, design, manufacture and fitting of
-108 Dioptre lenses to correct what is probably
the world’s highest degree of myopia.
With lenses of -108.00 D sphere and 6.00D
cylinder, this alliance of experts has made
significant advances in the correction of severe
myopia. This record topped the same team’s
previous achievement of -104 Dioptres as they
redrew the boundaries of what is possible in
optometry and optics.
In another very noteworthy case of pushing
the boundaries of what is possible in the field,
Essilor used its 35D Prism lens to help one
Mr Ptacek. Following a car accident in 2012,
the gentleman was left with a combination
of severe visual problems, affecting his ability
to work and his daily social interactions.
Essilor, through close teamwork by specialists,
succeeded in designing and developing a
ground-breaking solution to fit Mr Ptacek’s
