Steady growth and success marked Mr Patel’s long career. Post his optometry
education from SM Bose College in Kolkata (then Calcutta) and advanced
training in the fitting of contact lenses at the London College of Optometry, he
travelled across Gujarat training others in fitting CLs.
By this time he had already opened his first optical store, Nagar Chasmaghar,
in Ahmedabad at the young age of 20, set up in 1957 in partnership with
his uncle, Hirabhai Patel, an eye specialist. The store soon made its mark for
its quality products, latest technology and good public relations. Over the
years the business expanded and today runs showrooms at prime locations in
Ahmedabad, the most recent of which was launched in February 2019.

Mr Patel’s many contributions such as a well-equipped ophthalmic mobile van
to an NGO has provided eye care and free spectacles to thousands of people in
villages around Ahmedabad.

Jayantibhai Patel was an active member of professional bodies and conference
organising committees. He was the recipient of several honours including
the Optometrist of the Year award in 2005, and more recently the Legend of
Optometry award by Ansal University.
