ON ‘UNSUNG HERO’
OPTOMETRISTS

professionals, optometrists play
Aa very important role in eye care
and contribute to the community in
a significant way. As the Optometry
Council of India (OCI) puts it, they work
hard to ensure better vision and a better
life but remain relatively unknown.
To address this and draw attention to PAULA MEHTA SHAKEEL AHMED
optometrists as individuals and to their
achievements, the OCI has introduced
live sessions on Facebook to pay tribute
to these real-life heroes. In a new series
of panel discussions entitled “Unsung
Heroes”, optometrists from various
parts of India, mostly less focused
on cities, are invited to share their
stories and inspire young and aspiring

Three sessions have been conducted
so far. The panellists for the first session
were Shakeel Ahmed from Bhopal
who works as an ophthalmic officer,
Vibha Kumari from Delhi and Anton
D-Cruz from Shillong. The second
session featured Pardeep Bharti from
Punjab, Karthikeyan from Tamil Nadu
and Aaesha Khatoon from Vijayawada. AAESHA KHATOON JAYANT JHA
The third session had Chethan S from
Coorg, Jayant Jha from Muzaffarpur
and Sulfikar NS from Bangalore.
OCI plans to host more such live
sessions to celebrate optometrists’
contributions to the community. All are
invited to follow their official Facebook
page and get to know the participants
