Vipin Buckshey honoured with the Friendship Medal by the Mongolian Government

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Republic of India, Mongolian state decorations were awarded to Indian citizens who have made valuable contributions to the development of bilateral relations and cooperation.

The President of Mongolia, His Excellency Ukhnaa Khurelsukh,

conferred the state orders and medals during his state visit to India, in a ceremony held in the capital mid-October 2025.

Mongolia’s Friendship Medal is a prestigious civilian award presented by the country’s government. Optometrist Vipin Buckshey was honoured with the Friendship Medal in recognition of the thousands of Lasik procedures done on Mongolian nationals successfully in the last 25 years at Visual Aids Centre, New Delhi. The honour also recognised that apart from active medical tourism with Mongolia, Visual Aids Centre has trained over 25 Mongolian ophthalmic surgeons free of cost.

Noted optometrist and laser vision correction specialist Vipin Buckshey is also a recipient of the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian honours in India, bestowed for distinguished service. He received the honour in 2000.

Other Indians awarded by the Mongolian government who received the honours in New Delhi were two career diplomats and a professor (Order of the Polar Star); a cardiac surgeon, an academic administrator, and three honorary consuls (Friendship Medal).
