It was launched by India's Prime Minister, Shri
Narendra Modi, to commemorate 75 years of the
country's independence.
Yogita L. Rajgandhi, a senior optometrist and
nationalist, was invited as the Guest of Honour at
the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav event at the MNB
Industrial Home for the Blind in Jogeshwari,
Mumbai. The event's organisers, co-coordinator
Mr. Mayank, sponsors, visually impaired inmates,
and participants from all walks of life attended it.
Chief Guests Ms. Deepa Sapre, a fitness
trainer and bodybuilder from Mumbai, and
Ms. Nisha Gupta, a national basketball player
TREE PLANTATION
(Paralympic), gathered at 8:45 a.m. to hoist the
Indian flag in the august presence of dignitaries
from the Giants group of Jogeshwari, Lions
Club of Lokhandwala and Rotaract Club of
N M College, Vile Parle. Mr. Ramakant Satam,
Secretary of Cricket Association for the Blind of
Maharashtra (CABM), and actress-cum-model,
Rhea Khan, were present for the august flag
hoisting. All the attendees sang the national
anthem with much pride and joy to celebrate
India in all its glory.
Optom Yogita also carried out a cleanliness
drive and tree plantation in and around the
Blind Home. At the event, she shared the
urgency for everyone to learn about cleanliness,
hygiene, and sanitation. She also threw light on
the various diseases that are caused due to poor
hygienic conditions. Snacks and sweets were
distributed after the welcome message, followed
by a musical programme that was organised by
the visually impaired and young members of
the Rotaract Club. Each dignitary was felicitated
with a beautiful Tulsi plant. The celebration
