he 23 of March is celebrated all over
the globe as World Optometry Day to
Tcreate awareness about the profession
and the critical role of optometrists in tackling
uncorrected refractive error which affects
people of all ages and ethnic groups and is the
main cause of vision impairment.
OCI’S ACTIVITIES
The Optometry Council of India (OCI)
conducted two major activities on WOD 2021,
both centred on the theme of myopia and
child eye health: a competition and a series of
webinars.
The competition for students of optometry
brought out an amazing range of talent as they
presented their concepts on the theme through
posters, memes and videos. Nine winners from
the more than 100 entries in three different
categories went home with

For the series of webinars
on myopia awareness among
the general public, the OCI
collaborated with the Ladies
Circle Club, the Tangent
India Club and Rotary Club
Bangalore, and attracted 35
members from the first two
mentioned clubs of the city,
while 38 participants from
15 Rotary Clubs of Bangalore
participated in the second
