BOptom course. Vidushi Gupta, Priti Gupta and Deepshikha Patel
received gold, silver and bronze awards, respectively.
In July it was further proposed that the SOSA Trust would honour
leading professionals who have devoted 50 years to optometry. KUNDA ROHIT

The Trust has announced that the Lifetime Achievement Awards
would be conferred on Dr Narendra Kumar for 2020 and Kunda
Rohit Ganatra for 2021; and Optometrist of the Year Award 2021 on
Amod Shriram Gogate. The awards will be presented at the next
conference in Puri.
Delhi-based Dr Narendra Kumar is currently chairman of the
Eye Care India Charitable Trust; editor of the Optometry Today
journal; and eyewear, contact lens and low vision aid practitioner AMOD
at OphthaCare Eye Centre. He held the position of refractionist GOGATE
at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for three decades up till 1992. Besides VIDHUSHI
lectures and published articles, he has several innovations to his GUPTA
credit including ptosis spectacles (to lift drooping upper lid), fabric
occluder (for patching of the eye in amblyopia), and ear-plugs.
Mrs Kunda Rohit Ganatra, optometrist / orthokeratologist
and contact lens specialist, has practiced in Mumbai and Pune,
with stints in the US and London. She has presented papers
at international conferences and CL educational programmes,
published articles, been visiting professor at institutes, and active as PRITI
a fellow and member of professional associations in India and the GUPTA
US, the UK, Japan and Australia. Dr Ganatra has also been president
of the Indian Optometric Association, secretary of the Contact Lens
Society of India and on the advisory panel of Johnson & Johnson.
Amod Shriram Gogate is associate director and professor,
training and education at PBMA’s HV Desai Eye Hospital, Pune.
He graduated from AIIMS, holds a master’s in clinical optometry
and has experience in healthcare management, clinical education,
customer experience and digital transformation. In 1998, Amod DEEPSHIKHA
PATEL
helped set up the School of Optometry at Bharati Vidyapeeth
University Medical College, Pune. Till last year, Amod led the
professional education team of JJVC as associate director. He has
presented papers at international conferences, and is an active
member of many professional associations. Most recently he
developed a learning management system to deliver continuing
education through webinars.
