With its highly advanced engineering and technology, Ray-Ban has been protecting eyes from UV rays since 1937. However, it’s the whole package of its features that has made it stand apart from the beginning: innovation and function always presented in contemporary styles that become trendsetters. No wonder then that big names in creative and other fields have been known to sport Ray-Ban.
As the strapline of its logo reads ‘Genuine Since 1937’. This certainly points to its iconic status, and one that goes way back. Embarking on a path of what Ray-Ban calls its bold evolution, the brand has upgraded some of its most iconic silhouettes by reimagining classic designs beyond the boundaries of tradition. The bold new dimensions, evolved to tap into the needs of today, have shifted the horizons of its design concepts with a new look without the eyewear losing its timeless appeal. These Mega counterparts present two cultural trailblazers, Mega Clubmaster and Mega Wayfarer.
Unmistakable originals, reinvented for the intrepid as the company puts it, combines its everlasting designs with a restless spirit of innovation. In the process, historic details take on defiant proportions, seen in extra-wide temples and thick rims that come headlong with a rush of pop optimism.
The classic Clubmaster of the 1980s attracted quite a following with its bold brow shape and retro sensibility. Here was a style that made the intellectual appearance look ultra-cool, far removed from the preconceived image of the closeted intellectual. The new Mega Clubmaster takes the signature concept of the original and elaborates on it with its strongly defined broad temple on a metal front, a thick eyebrow shape and the expected dot rivets. This bold reinterpretation of the popular silhouette is presented in solid and polarized lens options. The Sun 0RB0316S model comes in a choice of six colour combinations, including a bi-layered style. State-of-the-art technology is what Ray-Ban is about so naturally these latest sunglasses are fitted with its ultimate Transition lens technology. The model’s optical version, Mega Clubmaster 0RX0316V too offers a selection of colours from classic black to contemporary ones in subtle shades of blue, green and grey.
Seen as avant-garde when it was first launched in 1952, the original Ray-Ban Wayfarer continued to grow in popularity. It was a perfect fit for the ‘60s rock revolution, the ‘80s art scene and the ‘90s hip-hop culture, and continues to hold its own today. The first sun models of the Mega Wayfarer were launched in October 2022 – showing a bold profile with thick, solid lines, its essential details intensified, and finished with the signature dot rivets to the front. Optical 0RX0840V, a new optical model, has now joined the collection. The style is available in classic colours as well as a transparent bi-colour option with a thick Havana temple.
Two new sun models have also been introduced this spring season. Mega Wayfarer Sun 0RB0840S, designed in beautiful hues of transparent colours, comes fitted with classic solid lenses. These frames and packaging have been crafted with bio-based materials. The new styles are in line with Ray-Ban’s signature theme of adapting to contemporary trends while remaining iconic – seen here with fresh bold twists and reflecting their new campaign of ‘Genuine Since We Dared to Be’.
