‘MUST HAVE’ E-RESEARCH TOOLS

Humans are distinct from animals in a sense, as they have curious minds. A curious mind indulges in the search and re-searches. Research is nothing but a search for knowledge. As per the advanced learner’s dictionary the research is defined as a “Systematised effort to gain new knowledge”.

With the advent of internet, researching has become a relatively easier task as information is easily accessible on almost any topic.

E-research is the use of information technology to uphold existing and new forms of research. Alternatively, one can also browse the shelves of a library.

COMMON STEPS OF BIO-MEDICAL RESEARCH

Research is done in an order, starting with the identification of problem, review of literature, creation of hypothesis, research design, population description, data collection, data analysis and report-writing, etc. Researchers have consensus on 8 common steps of research (figure 1). Modern researchers use one or more e-research tools in each research step in order to expedite the process.
