Comfort progressives for visual and postural comfort

ALL DAY LONG VISION COMFORT

The advent of the mobile phone was a revolution, more so as within a comparatively short period of time it spread worldwide and became so much more inclusive. More recently, with Apps and much else, it has become a gadget that’s at hand all the time.

Since handheld devices are used not just at our desks but also while standing, lying down, in public transport and even while attending to other tasks, this new lifestyle has however led to new visual challenges. As our bodies need to adapt and shift to different postures while engaged in these new usage habits, the new vision needs call for clear vision irrespective of the posture.

Glasses with single vision lenses are a bother as the wearer has to constantly take them off to see clearly at different distances or while using multiple devices. A wearer of prescription spectacles needs much more flexibility for clear vision at all times – which cannot happen with single vision or reading glasses. PAL (progressive addition lenses) wearers also have a hard time as they are forced to stay in a rigid posture because progressive lenses are traditionally designed to offer clear vision at different distances for only static postures.

Therefore it’s apparent that without postural freedom, wearers cannot keep up, comfortably, with today’s active and connected lifestyles.

There are multiple reasons for this. For one, they are forced to adopt a static, rigid posture over a prolonged period of time that goes against their body’s natural movement. Secondly, they can’t see naturally without having to struggle to find the right gaze direction. And equally important is the fact that prolonged exposure to screens has been linked to both postural discomfort and visual fatigue.

What’s the best solution? Ergonomic progressive lenses for all-day long vision comfort address all these challenges quite easily. And in this advanced category, Essilor’s latest Varilux Comfort Max progressives fit the bill with its latest generation lenses that offer both enhanced visual and postural comfort.

The Varilux Comfort Max is a new version of its iconic Varilux Comfort 3.0 lens, which presents its latest advanced progressive lens design which adjusts to the wearer’s natural postures, so one can keep up with their lifestyles without even thinking about it.

Its key characteristics are: Postural flexibility for sharp and seamless vision at all distances; longer-lasting comfort throughout the day; and increased ease of adaptation for all situations of daily life, even for those who have not worn progressive lens before.

Thanks to Flex Optim, its exclusive trademarked technology, Varilux Comfort Max lenses are adjusted to each individual. The lenses extend the useful vision zone so that wearers have a wider range of natural postures to see sharply, providing more comfortable vision all day long.

The unique benefit of increased postural flexibility of up to 227 more postures to see clearly is based on Essilor’s R&D avatar simulations in 2019: An increase in the total number of head positions vs. Varilux Comfort 3.0 lens considering a Plano Add 2 prescription, 2 target objects (at 65cm, 76cm) and max binocular visual acuity loss of 0.15 logMAR.

To put this in perspective, a head position is defined as a 1 degree head angle variation, vertically or horizontally.
